Hi guys... I am expecting my second child and my church has never had a staff member have a baby before so there is no policy. Does anyone know what their church has done for maternity leave? My associate pastor does not know whether the personel committtee will choose to continue my pay during my 6 weeks so I am trying to gather information from other churches on what they have done. Even if you know what your church has done for extended medical leave will be helpful! If you could leave your church's name and what they have done, it would be of great help! THanks!

Hi Jill,

Congrats on the new baby!

I was on staff, part-time at GracePoint CON in Shawnee, KS when I had my daughter. This was in July 2006. At the time, the church was running nearly 200 with almost 50 kids birth-5th grade. The board decided to give me full pay for a month. I don't think this was a "policy" -- just what they decided to do. I was the first staff member who had a baby while on staff and there hasn't been any since me.

Hope this helps.

Good luck! Jenni

I would google "family medical Leave" Act and find out what the the federal policies are for what the Church legally has to do. Mosat of the Churches that I Have been at would grant 6 weeks paid and then any additional would be leave without pay. Some will also let you tack on vacation if it has not been spent. May the Lord provide!!!
